Walk (101)

On October 16th 2019 Frances Gilbert led the Robin Hood Hill Walk of about 7.5 – 8 miles. We set off from The Plough Inn in just a hint of fine drizzle, making our way to join the Robin Hood Way near the Church. Our first stop was to visit the Halifax Bomber Memorial, close to Riddings Hall House. This Memorial commemorates the site where a Canadian Bomber crashed just outside Farnsfield in 1944, killing all the crew. We followed the Robin Hood Way all the way to the Settlement where we enjoyed fine views of the local countryside before retracing our steps to Combs Wood, where we had lunch in the pleasant sunshine. Our walk continued, and close to Meadow Farm we visited the Robin Hood Way half-way marker. We returned to Farnsfield using local footpaths and finished our walk with welcome refreshments at The Plough Inn!
